Celebrity Makeup Artist: Tia Dantzler
The incredibly gifted Tia Dantzler is no stranger to success when it comes to makeup artistry. As a CelebrityMakeup Artist, Tia Dantzler has created amazing looks for some of Hollywood's hottest celebrities! She has currently returned back to the states after accompanying Oscar-winning Actress and Singer, Jennifer Hudson to Austrailia. Her portfolio is comprised of A-list clients such as President Barack Obama, Maxwell, Magic Johnson, and Keke Palmer, to name a few. When she is not "beating" the face of one of her celebrity clients, you can find Tia providing motivation to aspiring artists while acting as a spokesperson, or follow her on twitter here to keep up with her impressive schedule.
Building an astonishing list of A-list clientle in the makeup industry does not happen overnight. In fact, as an industry vetran of over 10 years, Tia admits that when she started her buisness, she did alot of makeup for free!That's right, FREE! “I sat as many people as I could in my chair and did a lot of free work to gain experience,” she explains in an interview with Black Enterprises. She also notes that she engulfed herself in the industry to hone her craft and is an advocate of career training. Tia also credits passion, creativity, and the Holy Spirit as driving forces behind her success.
When it comes to advice for aspiring Makeup Artists wanting to break into the field, Tia recommends the following:
• Write down your goals, study and know the area of your expertise so you can have a direct target.
• Make yourself visible via your website, social networking sites, craigslist, model mayhem etc..
• Network with photographers, hairstylist and fashion stylist to let them know you’re available for work.
• Always follow-up after meeting industry people while your name is still fresh in their minds.
• Say YES to as much work as you can...don't forget to look at every situation as an opportunity for growth.
• Stay inspired by looking at magazines, movies, paintings basically anything visual that makes you want to get out a makeup brush and experiment.
